Air-conditioner Broken Down - FSER 3014 & Sri Emas

TYPE: NORMAL

The air-conditioner in FSER 3014 was spoilt on Monday itself, Service Helpdesk was key-in for people to come and fix, the reason given was, they were fixing a new air-conditioner in that particular classroom.

The air-conditioner in Sri Emas was broken down this early week too, same thing, Service for fixing has key-in and Facilities Management Division has sent members to fix.

Law Library Arrangement of Books

TYPE: NORMAL

Issue: Dear MMU Law Students & Lecturers, if you realize, there has been a re-arrangement on the Law books in Law Library. From the old system to the new system now. We do receive a lot of complaints on the newly changed system. However, hold on, please don't condemn yet, listen to the reasoning behind. 

Info from the Library Division & Person-in-Charge of Law School

REASONING
Old System: Law books have been divided into areas of Law, it is very easy for a student to student his subjects, where he doesn't even need to know the code/name/details of the book, but just to grab it at the rack, however, this is not the way of a standard library keep their books, in fact, to search a book, you have to based on codes, and to learn to use it, and also this is not the way a Law student learns how to properly search for a book, a case authority. In this point, the new system would help to train our Law student, in learning the correct way and properly utilize the library.

Solution: We have prepared a survey form, agreed by Law School, in asking the students' opinions on which of the system is more preferable, we will later collect and bring it up to the Law school and Library Division. The form will be up next week, therefore, Law Students, please help to fill in and give your suggestions. 

Brighter MMU @ nite..

TYPE: GOOD NEWS 


Announcement: There has been a great improvement on lightning at Main Entrance of MMU Melaka Campus, (2 spotlight from the newly built guardhouse), behind FBL (1 spotlight & lights are on), behind Plaza Siswa and the alley above main hall building upon requests and demands from the students to STAD, Security Department and so forth.

Enjoy a brighter MMU from now and then!! :) 

Increse of the MMU internet speed

TYPE: GOOD NEWS 

Announcement: Have you realize that MMU Wifi Internet speed is getting better, faster and more stable? This is because ITSD has had a major improvement on MMU Wifi speed & bandwidth- 350 Mbps.

Furthermore, have you seen before, when you try to connect to MMU Wifi, you see other MMU Wifi, for example, MMU NAC, MMU VIP, MMU VoIP?..

Well, a little to share,
MMU NAC- is for those connection with virus, it'll be quarantined for anti-virus purposes
MMU VIP- is for those clubs & societies, events that need a specialized area of Wifi connection, you may apply to ITSD to open up this connection
MMU VoIP- is for the staff use

So guys, a little good to share, use it wisely.. :) 

Server Problem - Subject Registration & Viewing of the Result

TYPE: URGENT (Internet matters)

Issue: We, MMU students have experienced the worst server/internet problem, when we were trying to register for our subject & to view result during Trimester 1, 2011/2012

The reason is our server has faced technical problem and cannot cope with the students that register everyday during Registration Week, do you know average a day of registration, there is around 1500++ of MMU students are trying to register their subjects?.. & of course, to view result is for All Students.

Department that in-charge of the server, MMLS, online bulletin and Students' Info Center, is a department called, Enterprise System & Development Support Unit (ESDS), which is under our ITSD. The server has been coming out with technical problems and the coding of the system has not been changed for 10 years.

Action Taken: 
For short term, we have sent a proposal to ERU & ESDS to further divide the registration group, not only to follow the Credit Hour, but also to divide according to different faculties.

For long term wise, ESDS has promised that the server maintenance will be done in December, a re-write on new coding will also be done, which will take around a year.

Issue on MMU Insurance (MSIG)

TYPE: URGENT (Financial Matters)

Announcement: Dear senior students of MMU (110 batch and before),
Please be reminded that you're no longer being covered by insurance as it is not being invoiced in the student financial kiosk. You can either go to SSC to buy insurance from MSIG (before 15 Dec 2011, insurance premium RM 110) or proceed to company outside if you want insurance. Please help to spread.Thank you.

Issue: Student Affair & Sports Division (STAD) did not invoice the insurance payment starting from the term 2011/2012, students that paid 'a lump sum' fee with looking at the items on student statement many still think that they are still under MMU Insurance. Guys! Be aware of the items that you are paying!!


Reasoning from STAD: MSIG, the insurance company & STAD would hope that the insurance premium need only go through from the buyer to the insurance company without a middle man keeping money. 

Action Taken: After realizing this matters, a meeting was held in between STAD, MSIG and students' rep, we have requested MSIG to open up again for the students that would want to buy insurance, thought they have bought MMU Insurance, due date to pay is on 15th Dec 2011, for the term of insurance from June 2011-June 2012. MMU insurance is not compulsory, this info is for those who wants it. 


STAD did not informed the students before hand, on not invoicing the insurance payment, on this matter, we will bring it up to a higher authority meeting and demand for an explanation.

Due Date for Fee Payment for Trimester 2, 2011/2012

TYPE: URGENT(Financial matters)

Announcement: Please be reminded that the due date of fee payment of Trimester 2, 2011/2012 is 9th Dec 2011 by Finance Division.

Issues/Problems: 
-The due date has been set about 3 weeks earlier compared to previous years.
-PTPTN will not be coming money loans that early.

Reasoning from the Finance Division:
Need to close MMU's year-end account

Action Taken: Have had a meeting with Finance to make sure that, Students with PTPTN will not be financially barred until PTPTN loan money comes in, will be having a further meeting with Vice President Finance, to make clear, explain and come out with a solution on this issue.
